4/5/2018: New Form CG-835V Vessel Inspection Requirements

Form CG-835V Vessel Inspection Requirements is specifically tailored to capture more detailed deficiency data in a manner that is aligned with globally accepted Port State Control methodologies. The CG-835V was developed in conjunction with corresponding enhancements to the Coast Guard’s internal database, MISLE, in order to support better data analytics and the development and monitoring of Key Performance Indicators for the U.S. flag fleet and the Recognized Organizations that perform statutory certification and services on the Coast Guard’s behalf.

4/4/2018: Recap of recent Spill of National Significance executive seminar

During a Spill of National Significance – as with any oil spill – maritime industry is a significant party to the response, either as the Responsible Party, a salvage or marine firefighting provider, an OSRO, or other contributory role. Maritime Commons recently attended the 2018 Spill of National Significance Executive Seminar and is providing a summary of the discussions among federal executives in attendance in order to inform our readers what to expect about how the government operates under the various response regulations and frameworks in play during a SONS.

4/3/2018: Policy Letter 18-04, Guidance on implementation of new firefighting equipment standards

Policy Letter 18-04 provides guidance to Officer(s) in Charge, Marine Inspection, on recent changes to regulatory requirements for fire protection, detection, and extinguishing equipment used on inspected and uninspected vessels, Outer Continental Shelf facilities, deepwater ports and mobile offshore drilling units.
