The Coast Guard will enforce safety zones for the Los Angeles County Holiday Fireworks on December 14, 2024, and the Los Angeles County New Years Eve Fireworks on December 31, 2024 through January 1, 2025. These safety zones are to provide for the safety of life and property on the navigable waterways during these events. Our regulation for firework events within the Los Angeles Long Beach Captain of the Port Zone identifies the regulated areas for these firework events in Marina del Rey, CA. During the enforcement periods, the operator of any vessel in the regulated area must comply with directions from the Patrol Commander or any Official Patrol displaying a Coast Guard ensign.

The Coast Guard amends the approval requirements and follow-up program requirements for lifejackets by incorporating new standards to replace existing legacy standards. The Coast Guard further amends lifejacket and personal flotation device (PFD) carriage requirements to allow for the use of equipment approved to the new standards and removes obsolete equipment approval requirements. The amendments streamline the process for the approval of PFDs and allow manufacturers the opportunity to produce innovative equipment that complies with standards in both Canada and the United States. Manufacturing firms also stand to benefit through a reduced production-inspections burden.

The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone for navigable waters of Sandusky Bay in vicinity of the Jackson Street Pier in Sandusky, OH. The safety zone is necessary and intended to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from potential hazards associated with firework displays created by the City of Sandusky. Entry of vessels or persons into this zone is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port (COTP) Detroit, or his designated representative.

The Coast Guard is establishing a temporary safety zone for navigable waters of the Atlantic Ocean at the Charleston Harbor Entrance Channel, Charleston Harbor, and Cooper River, within a 100- yard radius of the M/V CAPE RACE and all towing vessels supporting its operations. The safety zone is needed to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from potential hazards created by the dead ship movement of M/V CAPE RACE from the Charleston Harbor Entrance Channel to Detyens Shipyard on the Cooper River in North Charleston, SC. Entry of vessels or persons into this zone is prohibited unless specifically authorized by the Captain of the Port Sector Charleston.
