Staff from the offices of Commercial Vessel Compliance, Operating and Environmental Standards, and the Marine Safety Center presented on various aspects of the Coast Guard’s ballast water management program before an audience of over 140 maritime industry professionals at the Ballast Water Technology North America conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sept. 25-27, 2018. In this post, we summarize a presentation by Cdr. Alan Moore, with the Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance, on Coast Guard ballast water management regulations, how to achieve compliance, and enforcement aspects.

The Coast Guard’s Liquefied Gas Carrier National Center of Expertise’s partnered with Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville to coordinate a four-day “LNG as Fuel Workshop” for future inspectors of LNG fueled vessels, with support from industry experts and the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Center. Together, this team provided Coast Guard marine inspectors from across the U.S. with an in-depth understanding of LNG fueled engines, bunkering evolutions, risk analysis, membrane containment systems, type C tanks, vessel operations, plan review, and firefighting techniques.
