3/6/2018: Navigation Rules to be included in U.S. Coast Pilot publication

The Coast Guard Office of Navigation Systems and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of Coast Survey announced that they will incorporate the amalgamated International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea and the Inland Navigation Rules into NOAA’s U.S. Coast Pilot publications.

3/4/2018: Updated ballast water management NVIC now available

The offices of Operating and Environmental Standards and Commercial Vessel Compliance announced March 1, 2018, the availability of Navigation and vessel Inspection Circular 01-18, “Ballast Water Management For Control of Non-Indigenous Species in Waters of the United States,” to inform maritime industry and Coast Guard personnel and provide guidance to ensure a more complete understanding of, and maximum compliance with, ballast water management requirements.

3/1/2018: Remarks by Director of Commercial Regulations and Standards Jeffrey Lantz, during Polar Code harmonization conference

2/23/2018: U.S. Dept. of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announces new global shipping advisory regarding sanctions risks related to North Korea’s shipping practices

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Coast Guard, issued an advisory to alert persons globally to deceptive shipping practices used by North Korea to evade sanctions.
