The U.S. State Dept. will conduct a meeting, led by the U.S. Coast Guard, to prepare for the fifth Session of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Sub-Committee on Ship systems and Equipment, to be held at the IMO Headquarters in London, United Kingdom, March 12-16, 2018. The meeting is open to the public.

2/21/2018: Fifth session of the sub-committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC-5)
The Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction held its fifth session at International Maritime Organization Headquarters in London, England, January 22 to 26, 2018. A delegation from the U.S. Coast Guard attended the event.

2/20/2018: New issue of ‘Drill Down’ now available
As the offshore oil and gas industry pushed exploration into deeper water, it found that conventional anchoring became less practical and cost effective. The advent of DP brought the industry an effective, yet complex solution to remaining stationary while conducting high consequence operations. In this issue of ‘Drill Down’ the Outer Continental Shelf National Center of Expertise discusses the basics of a Dynamic Positioning (DP) system.

2/16/2018: Passenger Vessel Association 2018 convention – recap of remarks
The Passenger Vessel Association held its annual convention in Savannah, Georgia, Jan. 27-31, 2018, and nearly a dozen Coast Guard senior leaders and staff had the opportunity to provide their thoughts on topics of mutual importance to industry and regulators.

2/15/2018: New policy letter regarding inoperable ballast water management systems now available
Policy Letter 18-02 provides guidance to vessel masters, owners, operators, agents, and persons in charge of vessels as well as Coast Guard personnel when evaluating potential courses of action when a vessel destined for a U.S. port has an inoperable ballast water management system.

2/6/2018: Direct submission of medical certificate applications to the NMC
Beginning Feb. 1, 2018, mariners may submit medical certificate only applications (CG-719K and CG-719KE forms) directly to the National Maritime Center. Regional Exam Centers will continue to accept medical certificate applications.
